The Spongebob Squarepants Grace – From Behind The Glass Cage
Hey howdy hey all!
I like cartoons. I like kids shows. Love ‘em. Having children ultimately is just an excuse for me to watch said shows without people wondering why a 42 year old is watching “Fairly Oddparents” or “iCarly.” Then there’s the immense joy I felt discovering seasons 1-3 of “Animaniacs” on DVD in the ol’ Superstore bargain bin. Truth be told, I would much rather watch a good funny episode of something on YTV or Family Channel than anything on the other stations. Does that make me odd?
Okay, yes it does. Fine. Yet as I’ve established many times before during my rantings here I have absolutely no issue with being thought of as odd or strange. Admittedly I do have an issue with people running in fear away from me should it be discovered that punning, bad jokes and overall nerdiness has become contagious, but that’s a topic for another time.
Anyhoo, one of the benefits of my love for kids programming is listening to all the awesome theme songs that go with them. Even if you haven’t heard anything recently and wouldn’t know Hannah Montana from Victorious, surely you recall the classics like “Scooby-Doo”, “Spider-Man”, “Underdog” or “Jabberjaws.” These songs typically are catchy, buoyant, fun and classy all-around! I mean, who doesn’t love a fun ol’ theme song?!?
And who doesn’t love eating?!? And who doesn’t love God who provides the means and food to eat (nice segue, eh?)?!? So sometimes, a perfect storm happens where an awesome theme song gets married to an opportunity to give thanks to God!
To that end, I came up with a grace to the tune of the “Spongebob Squarepants” show. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a very strange show but highly funny. Not for everyone – I do know people that can’t look past the fact that even though it takes place in an underwater town called Bikini Bottom the denizens there can have campfires, showers, etc… IT’S A CARTOON… DEAL WITH IT!! However, if you can look past these stretches of believability then you will be rewarded! And the theme song is as good as it gets. Go ahead and look it up. I’ll wait.
Waiting… waiting… gee, you should really look at improving your internet speed… waiting…
Okay, so using that as a starting point I changed the words around and voila! A grace you can use at every meal!! So without further ado, the “Spongebob Squarepants” grace!
Are you ready kids? (Aye aye, captain!)
I can’t hear you! (Aye aye captain!)
Oooooohhhhh….
For all of this food that we have on our plate (Thank you Jesus)
We can’t wait to taste it ‘cuz boy it looks great (Thank you Jesus)
God bless the hands that prepared us this food (Thank you Jesus)
And let us remember that God is so good (Thank you Jesus)
Ready?
Thank you Jesus
Thank you Jesus
Thank you Jesus
Thank yoooouuuu Jesuuuuuuus…. (whistle)
Amen!
Enjoy! That should tide you over ‘til the next project – Disco Grace. “I wanna thank God for… my my my my my Boogie Foods!”
I have a feeling I may have killed that project right there.
God bless and happy trails,
Lloyd
