I’m Checking this Out – Maybe you’d like it to?

I don’t usually promote things that I’m checking out.  I tend to think that people have enough stuff to do in their lives that they don’t really want more invites to events.  However, I’m making an exception here.

The Wisdom Centre is bringing a speaker in May that I think is super wicked.  I’ve never met the dude and I’m not a groupie.  I have a read a lot of his stuff and think that he gives some of the most interesting angles on church in the 21st century that I’ve ever heard.  The dude’s name is Doug Pagitt and – among many things – is the pastor of unique church in Minneapolis called Solomon’s Porch.

I just finished reading his new book, “The Church in the Inventive Age” in preparation for his lecture/book promotion event.  This book is a quick read that does two simple things:

1. Provides a really helpful framework for evaluating the roles of churches in our changing times
2. Draws out some great questions that I think every church needs to begin to think about in order to remain faithful to incarnating the gospel of the kingdom of G-d in the here and now.

The book is super cheap – maybe Newt’s has it  (not sure).  The lecture itself is like $15 down at St. Laurence Anglican.  I encourage you to check it out if this is something that interests you.
