Moving Day – From Behind The Glass Cage

Hey howdy hey, all!

So I have to start packing.  I am here at work, looking at my sickly green cubicle and all the stuff on it, and trying to figure out where to start.  Now perhaps a little background is in order – I’m not being let go (not quite that lucky… oops, inside typing… love my job, love my job…).  Our office is getting new furniture, and as a result we have to take the stuff off of our current desks.  Actually, that was probably pretty obvious.  Anyways.

Now I have worked here for over 20 years.  A lot of stuff has been ditched over that time from various other moves or short periods of time where I think I should pretend to look like I’m doing something so purge skyscrapers of paper, but still there’s a bunch o’ stuff staring at me.  So take a journey with me, kids, and we’ll get through this!!

Alright so… on the walls.  Multiple Brady Bunch and Marcia Brady pictures.  Brady Bunch is the greatest show ever and let’s just say God did a fine, fine job when He created Marcia Brady.  Those go in the move box.  “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” theme song and movie poster.  Classic movie, has to come along.  Picture of the dog – cute dog, keeper.  Work related stuff – better keep I guess.  Frog magnet from Playa Del Carman, Mexico.  Never been, but cute frog so we’ll keep it.  Simpsons calendar stuck on December 2009.  Its a pretty classic pic of Mr.Burns, so better keep as well.

Carrying on – multiple Father’s Day things from the kids over the years.  Reminds me of the days when they were cute.  And nice.  And didn’t talk back and we could do no wrong – better pack.  More work stuff, sure, why not.  Duff Beer case, Pirates of the Caribbean flag, Star Wars McDonalds figures in the original stand… all important, better keep.  Flames pics from 2004 – will keep ’til at least next year when the Flames win the Cup again.

So far so good.  On to the drawers.  Work stuff, work stuff… meh, toss.  Garbage can thanks me.  Calgary Sun from last time Stamps won the Grey Cup.  Better keep ’til at least next year when the Stamps win the Grey Cup again.  This may be a recurring theme.

Desktop.  Work stuff, but best keep it ‘cuz it helps when I need to pretend I’m busy.  Stapler, pens, assorted other stuff that’s been borrowed from the stationery cabinet.  Which doesn’t move, so technically its the stationary stationery cabinet.  Keep.  Brady Bunch lunchbox, see the Brady Bunch argument for keeping the wall pics.  iPod speaker, gotta keep so I can blast the tunes, even though most days I listen to sport talk radio on the web.  But still, there’s those days you just gotta hear “Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine” by Sonshine (look it up, its soooo awesome!).  Slurpee cups with Superman, Iron Man, Thor and Snake Eyes from GI Joe… all holding important things so gotta keep.

Pics of my lovely family… toss.  I kid!  Keep.  Lava Lamp – reminds me of the 70s, only the greatest decade EVER, so keep.  Phone… brings nothing but more work.  Toss.  Wait, IT is coming around and looking grumpy that there’s a phone in the garbage.  Keep, pretend it was accidentally dropped.

Can of Monty Python “Spamalot” Spam, a bottle of Monty Python’s Holy Ale, a bottle of Duff Beer… kitschy, and kitschy starts with “k” like “keep”.  Big Bart Simpson head, big Guinness hat and a Jedi Mickey Mouse stuffy.  Important, keep.  Finally, the Potato Head collection – yep, all 17 ranging from Star Wars to Buzz Lightyear Potato Heads.  Its the talk of the company, you know, and a first stop for any tour.  To maintain the integrity of the company must keep.  I’m such a giver.

So that should do, all 50 bins topped off and ready to go.  Oh, there’s a new cubicle now!  That’s… smaller…

Praying now that negotiations for borrowing desk space from my new neighbour go very well.  Might petition for a patio up here on the 11th floor.

God bless and happy trails,

Lloyd

I rarely comment, but i did a few searching and wound up here Moving Day – From Behind The Glass Cage – Central United
Church. And I actually do have a few questions for you if you usually
do not mind. Is it only me or does it look like a few of these responses appear like they are left by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are posting at other online social sites, I would like
to follow anything new you have to post. Would you list of all of all your public pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
